The Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (hereinafter referred to as the FLU) is a non-university scientific institution conducting interdisciplinary research in the field of philosophy and related humanities. Together with partner universities, the FLU supervises PhD students who can collaborate with the FLU researchers and use its infrastructure.

The Faculty of History, Art and Oriental Studies at the University of Leipzig (hereafter GKO) focuses its research and teaching on political, social and cultural processes of change in the past and present. The GKO faculty is involved in several umbrella degree and doctoral programmes and awards the academic degree of doctor philosophiae (Dr. phil.) in the fields represented in its research and teaching.

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Leipzig has a number of institutes and centres. It confers the academic titles of doctor philosophiae (Dr. phil.) and doctor rerum politicarum (Dr. rer. pol.) for the disciplines or fields represented in research and teaching at the faculty within the framework of master's degree programmes or professorial appointments

In a statement dated 4 October 2019, the University of Leipzig highlighted the intensification of mutual support for doctoral studies as the main goal of future cooperation with the Czech Academy of Sciences. Thanks to the Leipzig Research Academy, the University of Leipzig has a central service facility for the support of young researchers.

The essence of the Leibniz Institute for the History and Culture of Eastern Europe (GWZO), an affiliated institute of the University of Leipzig, is not only its research in the region on which it focuses, including cooperation with partners there, but also its activities in Eastern Europe, especially in East Central Europe. To this end, the GWZO seeks a permanent institutionalised cooperation with the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague, in which it will act as an intermediary between German and Czech research, teaching and cultural institutions. The "Memorandum of Understanding" between the Leibniz Society and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic reinforces this goal.
